TYPE OF MEETING

Open Meeting

Open meeting is the default meeting type in EVO (except in EVO-Learning) in which all participants have full access to all media (send audio, video, desktop etc...) whenever they want.
It is the prefect setup for
interactive discussion within a small number of participants. It is always possible to use this kind of meeting for a large number of participants but they must be experienced users in videoconference discussion to avoid confusion. If you are in an open meeting, you dashboard will look like this:

Broadcast

Use this kind of meeting to broadcast a big event to the large number of participants without ability for them to give remarks or ask questions in audio/video. The only interaction allowed to the non moderator users is the Chat.
Only moderator(s) can send audio/video and more. If you are in broadcasted meeting, you will have this kind of dashboard in your Koala client
(if you are not the moderator) :

Plenary

This is the perfect meeting type
to handle presentation for one or few main sites to a large audience. By default everyone is muted except the owner of the meeting and moderators. But a raising hand mechanism (see below) allows any participant in the audience to ask question or give remarks. Of course, a request must be sent and granted by the moderator to allow someone to speak.

Class Room

on EVO-Learning ONLY
This is a dedicated to real time distance learning. This scenario works the same way as a "Plenary" meeting with the raising hand mechanism except that there are more constraints on the non-moderator participants (students). They do not have rights to:
  • start private Chat

  • send files to anyone else other than the moderator

  • view the presence tree

  • leave the meeting to join a different one (only to exit Koala)

Digital Raise Hand

Default participant

Each participant can receive all media by default but cannot send any (except Chat). Only Moderators can send media.
The participant must click on the
button to request to speak. This request is sent to the meeting moderator. When the access is granted, the participant’s microphone is automatically switched ON and all other media become available (like video camera, desktop sharing, etc...).

Moderator or meeting Owner

As soon as a participant asks to speak the "Raise Hands Manager" window appears to the moderator. The

icon means that the participant is still waiting to speak (keeping his/her hand up). Total waiting time (number of minutes) for each request will be near this icon.
The moderator can accept or reject any request. If the moderator accepts a request and grants access to the participant, the accepted request bar will stay in the widget with the icon (meaning that the participant has the privilege to speak). The moderator can decide to stop the speaking privilege at any time by clicking on button. When a request is rejected or canceled it will be automatically removed from the window.

If moderator does not want to be disturbed during part of the presentation and wants to deny all raising hands during this period, moderator should click on the button. When moderator wants to allow questions/comments to be accepted again, he can click on the button.
If the moderator closed the ”raise hands manager”
widget by mistake, it can always be opened via the button of the DashBoard.
